It’s Time to Hit Snooze on the Alarm(ists)

Global Warming, Climate Change, Eco-disaster…whatever you call it, it’s a hoax. The Global Warming Alarmists have fooled the media, but they have not fooled me. I don’t believe Human Released CO2 is a major contributor to temperature change on this planet.  However, those with big egos are convinced that we evil humans, with our electricity, and horseless carriages, and domesticated cow farts, are irreversably changing our planet forever.  I don’t have a problem with this….I have MANY problems with this.

My argument against Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is filled with common sense issues that any non-scientist should be able to understand.  I understand that it’s too much for a politician to follow, but anyone else with a 5th grade education should get it.

  1. The Climate has always “changed”. Never in recorded history has the climate remained constant.  30-40 years ago, some scientists were concerned about Global Cooling, the last few decades have seen that change to Global Warming…and now that it’s been cooling againg for 10 years, it’s Climate Change.  Fancy how they keep moving the target.  They’ve finally hit it on the head.  The climate will ALWAYS change, regardless if we act or not.  Again egos….how can one believe we can put a thermostat on our atmosphere when we can’t control the smallest of mother nature’s forces. Can anyone make a thunderstorm?  How about a rainstorm for droughts, or a dry spell for flooded regions.  Can anyone change direction of a tornado, or a hurricane?  Can you make it snow (And I don’t mean the resorts’ snow machines), or make it stop snowing?  Can you create Arctic Ice or stop a volcano?  Can you explain ALL facets of our environement which you so confidently think we can control?  The answer to ALL of these questions is NO! Why on earth is it possible to control temperature through CO2 control alone.  It’s a ridiculous argument.
  2. I don’t believe our temperature data is complete with all of the abnormalities in collecting the data. There are 1221 USHCN climate stations in the USA.  Anthony Watts created the project http://www.surfacestations.org to compile data on each of the weather stations throughout the US.  What he huas found is startling.  A HUGE number of these temperature devices have been placed in locations that could never give an accurate picture.  In Forest Grove, OR, you can see their weather station less than 10 ft from a building (that stores heat in it’s bricks, and releases it at night), it’s next to a window air conditioner unit that blows hot air on it all sunmmer long, and nearby parking lots that also store heat in the day and release at night.  Even more amazing are the examples when we have documented construction near a station.  Anthony DIRECTLY coorelates a new parking lot with temperature increase for that station.  BUT it’s being BLAMED on CO2!  The records are unreliable, and shouldn’t be trusted.
  3. CO2 is their only enemy. Wonderful carbon dioxide gets the blame for all of it.  Without it, all animal and plant life would cease.  With it, we all flourish.  History shows CO2 levels lagging behind temperature rises (by about 800 YEARS!).  But now we’re told it’s the CO2 that drive the temperature.  That’s bass ackwards.  There must be something else at work.  I believe the Marxist, anti capitalist, environmental (anti-human) movement has found their golden goose egg.  By controlling all forms of CO2, they can control ALL industry, driving, even exhaling….and hasn’t that been their goal from the beginning?
  4. Ice levels are at the same level as 30 years ago. Go back one year when the alarmists were saying the Arctic would be ice free in the summer of 2008.  Well, that didn’t happen (their scenarios never do), and instead the sea ice levels ROSE to 1979 levels when we started recording them!  Remember that the year of 2008 saw the Polar Bear put on the endangered species list due to the diminishing sea ice.  It’s back, so can we take them off the list?  OR, maybe we should put seals on the list since the bears can get to them easier now.  So, how did the alarmists get it wrong?  For one, they thought “new ice” would melt faster than old ice.  BUT, they neglected to consider the effect of snow cover on the ice.  Since the temperature dropped quickly at the end of 2008, the new ice formed much MORE new ice since it wasn’t insulated with snow.  Ice grew at the fastest rate EVER recorded. I guess NBC missed the scoop on that one.
  5. Speaking of NBC…the media is clueless. Their main goal is to get/keep viewers.  They’ve found the formula for success is to scare the pants off of everyone.  That makes people pay attention and watch the news.  To promote the iceless summer, and the impact of global warming, NBC News highlighted the penguins at the North Pole.  There’s only one ENORMOUS problem with this.  All 17 species of penguins live at the South Pole.  OOPS.  This could be brushed off as a simple error by an over zealous editor, or it represents the TOTAL lack of knowledge and responsiblity held by the media as it relates to our climate.  I believe the latter.
  6. There’s not enough man-made CO2 to make a difference! Carbon dioxide emissions worldwide each year total 3.2 billion tons. That equals about 0.0168 percent of the atmosphere’s CO2 concentration of about 19 trillion tons. This results in a 0.00064 percent increase in the absorption of the sun’s radiation. This is an insignificantly small number. The yearly increase is many orders of magnitude smaller than the standard deviation errors for CO2 concentration measurement.  97% of CO2 is from natural sources. Only 3% is produced from human activity. When you take into account that all CO2 makes up only .033% of the TOTAL atmosphere, you realize that our addition is minuscule at best.
  7. Computer models are not accurate. Not a single dire prediction made by James Hansen 20 years ago has come true.  The computer models have predicted it all wrong.  Remember the Hockey Stick that started it all?  It has been THOROUGHLY debunked.  We can’t predict weather more than a few days in advance, but the alarmists have some magical computer that can see 100 years into the future.  BS.
  8. Who decides where to set the thermostat? While some in Siberia might welcome some warming, those in the Middle East might prefer some cooling.  Who gets to decide the perfect global temperature?  Al Gore?  The UN?  The Marxists?  Greenpeace?  Silly rabbit, Mother Nature does.

More Details About Gaza And Fighting There.

This has has much to do with with Iran that before the end of his year will have a nuclear weapon.

As predicted here the Israel defense forces entered GAZA on Saturday. At least 30 Hamas gunmen were reported killed as Israeli Defense Force troops swept into the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday night, encountering fierce resistance from Hamas forces entrenched in fortifications just over the border. Dozens more Hamas fighters have been killed but no number has been released at this writing.

An IDF soldier was killed and 32 have been wounded as fighting continues in the Gaza Strip.

According to dispatches from the Jerusalem Post soldiers from the Armored Corps - 150 tabnks are reported near Gaza City, Engineering Corps, and Paratroopers, Givati, Golani brigades were participating in the fighting, with at least four brigades’ worth of troops inside the Gaza Strip. Israeli Airforce warplance continued to strike targets in Gaza.

Before the ground incursion began, IDF artillery, for the first time in several years, began pounding open areas in northern Gaza to “soften up” the area and destroy land mines and Hamas fortifications

Engineers are likely clearing bobby traps and land mines under the protection of others brigades so armor could move in with impunity.

One of the major aims of the operation was also to deliver a serious blow to the Hamas military wing, which the IDF estimated had not been severely weakened under the air campaign and deny Hamas sites where most of the rocket launches have taken place.

The IDF will not enter Gaza City or the refugee camps, defense officials said, and it was likely that on Monday - when French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrives and the international pressure is expected to escalate - Israel would begin scaling back the operations. Before that Israel will gain as much ground that it can most easily hold to deny Hamas rocket launch sites.

Israeli sources predict a “lengthy” operation, and warned that there will likely be Israeli casualties.

At least 80 rockets pounded southern Israel so far this weekend scoring direct hits on homes.

Perhaps the most bizarre weekend event happened Sunday morning  when U. S. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D) Nevada called the Israel-Hamas fighting a “civil war” during his ramblings on NBC’s MEET THE PRESS. On the same program Andrea Mitchell said the U. S. and Israel are “isolated” from other who has called for a ceasefire.

Members of the U. S. ARMY Corp of Engineers are quietly in Egypt advising it what can be done about the tunnel network that has defacto implicated it in Iran’s arming of Hamas from its territory.

It is apparent to most that the timing of Israel’s GAZA invasion involving both the unswerving support by the outgoing Bush administration and has much to do with with Iran that before the end of his year will have a nuclear weapon.

The Atheist’s Christmas Rights

Richard Cochrane writes:

“German politicians are so upset over crowded Christmas Eve church services that they are threatening to limit attendance to church tax payers only.  Germany’s Catholic and Protestant churches get over 70% of their funding from revenues collected by the tax office from community members.  Germans who officially leave their church are exempt from the church tax.

“Worried that regular churchgoers could not find a seat or get a ‘good’ seat due to the popularity of the traditional Christmas service, Thomas Volk, a top member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives in Baden-Württemberg, said the church should be selective.  Martin Lindner, a member of the liberal Free Democrats (FDP) in Berlin, also expressed alarm at the lack of places in church and told Bild that parish members should get tickets entitling them to the best seats.

“The Weimar Constitution of 1919 and Grundgesetz (Constiution) of 1949 are the legal basis for this practice.  In Germany, on the basis of tax regulations passed by the communities and within the limits set by state laws, communities may either:

‘require the taxation authorities of the state to collect the fees from the members on the basis of income    tax assessment (then, the authorities withhold a collection fee), or choose to collect the church tax themselves.’

“The church tax is only paid by members of the respective church.  People who are not members of a church tax-collecting denomination do not have to pay it.  Members of a religious community under public law may formally declare their wish to leave the community to state (not religious) authorities.  With such a declaration, the obligation to pay church taxes ends. Some communities refuse to administer marriages and burials of (former) members who have declared to leave it.

“The money flow of state and churches is distinct at all levels of the procedures. The church tax is not meant to be a way for the state to directly support churches, but since expenses for church tax are fully deductible in fact such support occurs on a somewhat large scale. That has atheists’ and non-members’ underwear in a bunch.

“The church tax is historically rooted in the pre-Christian Germanic custom according to which  the chief of the tribe was directly responsible for the maintenance of priests and religious cults. During the Christianization of Western Europe, this custom was adopted by the Christian churches (Arian and Catholic) in the concept of ‘Eigenkirchen’ (churches owned by the landlord), which stood in strong contrast to the central church organization of the Roman Catholic church. Despite the resulting medieval conflict between emperor and pope, the concept of church maintenance by the ruler remained the accepted custom in most Western European countries. In Reformation times, the local princes in Germany became officially heads of the church in Protestant areas and were legally responsible for the maintenance of churches.

“Not until the 19th century were the finances of churches and state regulated to a point where the churches became financially independent.  At this point the church tax was introduced to replace the state benefits the churches had obtained previously.

“Taxpayers, whether Roman Catholic, Protestant or members of other tax-collecting communities, pay between 8% (in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg) and 9% (in the rest of the country) of their income tax to the church or other community to which they live.  The tax payments are fully deductible.

“It was, to some extent, such federal support of religion through taxes that entrenched early American federalists who objected to both income tax and state supported religion.  It infuriated early separatists, many of whom joined pilgrims going to the New World.  Such freedom from religion morphed into the current debate, mostly by the ignorant—meaning uninformed—about freedom of religion.  Which is vastly different from current manufactured conflicts over trivial displays promulgated by atheists, agnostics and secularists determined to interfere in others’ faith and practices.”

How about the hypocrisy of unbelievers who block faithful church members from attendance, or at least decent seats, at Christmas services?  Apparently the atheists and other unbelievers like the feelgood pageantry, even though they consider it to be based on a delusion.  Someone has remarked, however, that if all the great deeds, art and architecture and the rest of Christianity are based on a delusion, it is still the grandest delusion imaginable.

Of course, the hypocrisy doesn’t stop there.  One poll found that 12% of those Americans claiming to have been born again don’t believe there is a God (!).  Now, THAT represents some sort of weird delusion!  I suppose it has to be classified with the Russians’ voting Josef Stalin as their third most admired head of state—right after one who suppressed the radical elements in Russian society.

What is happening, of course, is that we’re far advanced into the anti-Enlightenment, where feelings are all that matters.  But do we really want a society, an electorate and a government ruled by feelings instead of reason?

For my part, I’m still disgusted with a packed Christmas Eve service I attended in which many of those attending engaged in talking, laughing and horseplay even during communion.

Hamas Declares ‘Day of Wrath’ - Israel Said To OK Ground Attack

Israel Goes on High Alert

According to a report by Agence France Presse. On Friday Hamas ordered a “day of wrath” against Israel over the killing of a senior commander. “Israeli Police have been placed on a heightened state of alert throughout the country, just under the maximum level that is in effect in war time,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP. The police re stationed around likely terror targets across the nation.

The army also locked down the West Bank for 48 hours, with movement in and out of the territory prohibited except for emergencies and special cases.

According to AFP Hamas called a “day of wrath” after an Israeli air strike killed Nizar Rayan, a firebrand hardliner, and several of his wives and children. At least 422 Palestinians have now been killed in Israel’s seven-day-old blitz.

With Israeli tanks and troops massed for a threatened ground offensive around Gaza and no ceasefire in sight, the army allowed foreigners to leave the battered enclave. Fox News reported around noon EST that a go ahead to invade Gaza has been given but that has not been officially confirmed.

Israeli warplanes pounded Gaza for a seventh day, carrying out some 20 strikes overnight, bombing rocket launching sites and Hamas buildings, official sources said..

The Islamist movement kept firing back, sending a handful of rockets slamming into Israeli territory overnight without causing casualties.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni reiterated that Israel does not think the time is yet ripe for a truce after talks in Paris on Thursday with President Nicolas Sarkozy and other French leaders.

Otherwise peace moves are stalled at the UN Security Council even though UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the conflict had become “a dramatic crisis.” President Bush called the U. N. Secretary-General to the White House for consultations.

AFP reports, “The majority of the Israeli public is supporting the Gaza offensive, with some 95 percent of Jewish residents backing the strikes according to a survey published on Friday in the Maariv daily. Maariv (Hebrew: מַעֲרִיב‎, lit. Evening) is a popular middle-market daily newspaper published in Israel,.’

Iran Supplied, Chinese Made Rockets Rain On Israel

Pro-Hamas Anti-Israel Protest In USA and Elsewhere - Anti-Semitic Hate Crimes Reported.

The unguided Grad-model Katyusha rockets that were fired into Beersheba on Wednesday were manufactured in China and smuggled into Gaza after the Sinai border wall was blown up by Hamas in January, Israeli defense officials said.

The Chinese rockets have a range of 40 kilometers (about 25 miles). They are very similar to the 122 mm (almost 5 inches) Soviet-made Katyusha that was used extensively by Hizbullah during the Second Lebanon War and are slightly more sophisticated than an Iranian-made Grad-model Katyusha that is also in Hamas’ arsenal.

The four rockets that hit Beersheba this week had warheads filled with metal balls that can scatter up to 100 meters from the impact site, officials said. These rockets have also been fired into other cities.

The three countries that manufacture Grad-model Katyushas are China, Russia and Bulgaria.

Defense officials told The Jerusalem Post the rockets were smuggled into Gaza in the 12 days after Hamas blew a hole in the border wall between Gaza and Egypt on January 23.

“Huge quantities of weaponry were smuggled into Gaza then from above ground, including the Grad rockets,” an official said, adding that even after the border wall was sealed, Hamas continued to smuggle the long-range rockets into Gaza via tunnels under the Philadelphi Corridor.

From China, the rockets make several stops before reaching Gaza. In many cases, officials said, they are bought by Iran or Hizbullah and then transferred to Sinai.

In some instances, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has learned of weapons that came from Yemen and Eritrea, were moved to Sudan, then north to Egypt, and finally smuggled into Gaza.

“This is a complicated smuggling system that involves many different people around the world,” one official said.

The Grad-model Katyushas, officials said, were packed with large quantities of ammonia and less-than-maximum explosives to increase their durability and lethality.

Last Thursday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni that Cairo was not responsible for Hamas’ military buildup and that the long-range rockets in the group’s arsenal were not smuggled through the tunnels from Sinai.

Defense officials said Wednesday that Aboul Gheit was partially correct, in that some of the rockets did not come into Gaza through tunnels, but that they did enter the Strip from Sinai.which is Egyptian controlled.

Egypt is complaining that Hamas leaders are abandoning Palestinians to their own devices as they hide in shelters. Egypt is concerned about a flood of refugees from Gaza as food and even water become scarcer. Israel is sending convoys of relief supplies into Gaza, and a Red Crescent (Islamic Red Cross) ship is enroute to Gaza from Iran.

As the rockets continue to shower down into Israel its warplanes are pounding Hamas targets in Gaza.

Pro Hamas and anti-Israel demonstrations have occurred in scattered locales around the USA and elsewhere. Spotty anti-Semitic acts have also occurred. Hate signs were found at an Orange County synagogue and swastika at a Jewish Pre-school in Ventura County among others.

Remember the U. S. Pueblo - The America Is Always Wrong Bunch

U. S. Judge Orders North Korea To Pay $65 Million To Pueblo Survivors Which It Will Not Do.

Forty years ago the USS PUEBLO (AGER 2) an unarmed Banner-class technical research ship U. S. Navy vessel on an intelligence mission off the coast of North Korea was attacked by North Korean warships and MIG fighter-bombers. One sailor was killed and several wounded. On January 23, 1968, the USS PUEBLO was captured and impounded in North Korea where it remains today. The eighty-two surviving crew members were captured, held prisoner and tortured for 11 months.

Several survivors and the estates of Pueblo’s commanding officer sued and have just been awarded $65 million by a U. S. Federal court. North Korea never responded to the lawsuit and will not pay the judgment.

North Korea contended the PUEBLO had entered its territorial waters the U. S. has and does denie any intrusion.  More recently, facts have come to light that indicate that USS Pueblo was captured by North Korea at the instigation of the Soviet Union, which was seeking a cryptographic machine onboard to match with a key provided to the Soviets by the spy John Walker.

John Anthony Walker, Jr. (born July 28, 1937 in Washington D.C.) is a former Warrant Officer and communications specialist for the U.S. Navy convicted for selling his services as a spy to the Soviet Union from 1968 to 1985, the height of the Cold War era. Walker pleaded guilty in late 1985 as part of a plea arrangement whereby he offered testimony on co-conspirator Jerry Whitworth, provided details of his espionage activities and negotiated more lenient treatment for his son, Michael Walker. During his time as a spy, Walker helped the Soviets decipher over two hundred thousand classified encrypted naval messages organizing a spy operation that The New York Times reported in 1987 “is sometimes described as the most damaging Soviet spy ring in history.

The so-called “Pueblo incident” is often cited as those ignorant of the overall situation who were critical of the absence of a more confrontation U. S. response.

Thse even marginally knowledgeable of the entire situation realize the greater advantage of unravelling a serious spy network aiding the Soviet Union via North Korea.

Pueblo, still held by DPRK today rusting in a port, it  remains a commissioned vessel of the United States Navy. The nitwit North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Il has specified that it is being used to promote anti-Americanism.
Walker is imprisoned until 2015 for his treason.

New Year’s Eve Roundup From Gaza Frontlines

Land for peace abject failure

Hamas is firing salvos of longer range Russian and Chinese-made Iranian supplied rockets into Israel. Yesterday a 39-year old woman was among four killed by just such an unguided terror weapon in the current barrage. The rockets was one among hundreds that have been launched from Gaza which Israel gave up in 2005 and is now ruled by Hamas militants who reject the existence of the Jewish state.

Such attacks with longer and longer range weapons are deflating any hope of peace and has completely discredited the so-called “land for peace” initiative as an abject failure.

Israeli warplanes continue to pound Hamas targets inside Gaza as Israeli Defense forces muster on its border with Gaza.

Israel rejected a French sponsored ceasefire saying it would simple be used for Hamas to rearm and fortify. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, in defending the Gaza offensive in a speech to parliament Monday, said Israel remains committed to the idea of a Palestinian state alongside it.

But the missile that hit Ashdod, Israel’s largest southern city with 207,000 residents 23 miles north of Gaza, drove home a grim new reality. Israeli hard-liners maintain that every withdrawal brings Israel’s enemies closer: They say the Oslo accords negotiated in the Norwegian capital in the 1990s turned parts of the West Bank into breeding grounds for suicide bombers; the 2000 pullback from south Lebanon brought Hezbollah closer to Israel.

New Years Eve Associated Press reports from Jerusalem say Israeli intelligence believes the Lebanese militia now has rockets that can reach 125 miles, far beyond Tel Aviv - meaning the vast majority of Israelis are in range.

“The historical lesson of Oslo, of Lebanon and of Gaza proves that with every concession, every territory we leave is used for attacks against us,” said Yaakov Amidror, a former general now with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.

The Jerusalem Post reports IAF continued its assault on Gaza terrorist targets on Wednesday afternoon, bombing a Gaza City mosque and destroying a large number of rockets hidden inside.

Israel Channel 10 reported that the IAF had received high-level orders to hit the mosque after Hamas terror operatives had run there with several rockets and Grad-type missiles.

On Wednesday morning, the IAF struck targets in the northern Gaza Strip. Most of the attacks were reportedly directed against rocket launchers that were being used.

The Post also reports in what seems to be a related story two Israeli men were wounded when they were shot by a group of “middleeastern-looking men” in a mall in Odense, Denmark on Wednesday afternoon.

Thousands Answer Mullahs Call To Fight Against Israel

Ground Assault Now Not “If” But When — Air Attacks Continue — Anti-Israel Demonstrations Errupt

AP is reporting that about 3,550 people registered by Monday with the Combatant Clergy Society’s (CCS) web site to fight against Israel. CCS is a group of influential radical Iranian clerics. The group, which has considerable political and economic power in Iran, did not provide further details on the program including how it would contact the volunteers or implement the program.

The conservative clerics decided to sign up volunteers after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a religious decree on Sunday that said anyone killed while defending Palestinians in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip against Israeli attacks would be considered a martyr.

Khamenei’s religious decree was not considered a government decision and did not oblige the government to launch attacks against Israel.

But Iran considers Israel its archenemy, and its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for the destruction of the Jewish state. Iran also is Hamas’ main backer, though Tehran denies sending weapons to the Islamic militant group that took control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007.

Anti-Israel demonstrations are underway in Teheran and scattered incidents around Europe and elsewhere.

Israel’s air strikes on the Gaza Strip have sparked outrage in Iran and throughout the rest of the Muslim world. About 300 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded since the air assault began Saturday. Israel says it launched its campaign in retaliation for rocket fire aimed at civilians in southern Israel.

Also Monday, the Iranian Red Crescent sent a ship carrying 2,000 tons of food to Palestinians living in Gaza to be delivered via Egypt. An Iranian military plane also landed at Cairo International Airport carrying 24 tons of food and medicine destined for Gaza.

The head of Iran’s Red Crescent, Masoud Khatami, said three more ships were waiting to be loaded with humanitarian aid, and Iranian hospitals were ready to receive injured Gazans, according to the official Iran news agency, IRNA

CCS’s website gives volunteers three options on ways they can fight Israel: military, financial and propaganda.

At midday (U. S. time) Fox News reported from Israel that a ground invasion of Gaza is no longer a matter of if but when. Israel has called up several thousands of reservists, and they are mustering now as tanks continue to mass on Israel’s border with Gaza.

Moscow Ups Brinksmanship Ante Convinced Obama Will Backdown

Russia Believes Obama is All About Looking Good and Getting Reelected and it can get almost whatever it wants.

On Dec 23, 2008 Russia said “If the United States continues to bring elements of its strategic forces closer to Russia’s borders, including missile-defence sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, which are aimed at the reduction of our nuclear deterrent, mobile Topol complexes could be placed in Belarus,” the source told Interfax news agency.

Returning nuclear weapons to Belarus would be a major turnaround for Moscow, which removed its last nuclear missiles from the ex-Soviet republic in 1996, several years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The report came one day after Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko met his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow and reached a deal on the deliveries of Russian gas to Belarus.

Russia has reacted angrily to US plans to place elements of a missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, threatening counter-measures including the deployment of Iskander short-range missiles in its western Kaliningrad region.

A top Russian official reiterated the threat on Tuesday, stressing that the Iskanders would not be deployed in Kaliningrad — which borders the European Union — if the United States backed down on its missile shield.

“If there will be no third position area of missile defence, there will be no Iskanders in Kaliningrad,” Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said in an interview published in the Izvestia daily.

“We are in no way preparing to get caught up in an arms race,” he added.

The term “third position area” refers to US plans for an anti-missile radar facility in the Czech Republic and interceptors in Poland. The first two parts of the missile shield are in the US states of California and Alaska.

The United States says its missile shield is not a threat to Russia and is instead meant to protect against “rogue states” like Iran.

On December 26th Moscow disclosed Russia has begun to fulfill a $250 million- contract to deliver surface-to-air missiles to seven countries including Libya, Syria and Venezuela, the Vedomosti business daily reported Friday.

Russia will also deliver the S-125 Pechora-2M missile batteries to Egypt, Myanmar, Vietnam and Turkmenistan under the contract, the newspaper said, citing a source in the state-owned Russian Technologies corporation.

The Pechora-2M — known as the SA-3A Goa in NATO parlance — is an upgraded version of a surface-to-air missile originally developed in the 1960s that was widely shared with the Soviet Union’s allies around the world.

Under the contract, 200 missiles are to be delivered including 70 for Egypt most of the missiles will be built in Saint Petersburg.

Analysts liken the anit-aircraft missile system to the “Kalashnikov assault rifle – simple but deadly.”

Eye Witness Report About Gaza Fighting

…the pinch of salt

A notoriously unreliable man told me Sunday that Israeli civilians had been firing rockets into Gaza trying to provoke a counter attack as an excuse for the current air strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza. His source, he said was “news clips” but he lacked any evidence. His analysis included a prediction of increased attacks on American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His ideas are even more extreme than the news being reported by foreign media (CNN, Fox, Sky etc) that omits much of what is really happening.

Israeli news has reported the following which you probably won’t be privy including::

·        After several months of planning, and careful intelligense gathering Israel had 40 initial targets of Hamas.  Among those was a ceremony for the first “graduating  class” from a sophisticated Hamas terrorist training school. About 100 terrorist were killed there.

·        Egypt tightened security at their border with Gaza to prevent the  Palestinians from flowing across to Egypt .  Egypt has agreed to  accept some of the injured into their hospitals.

·        Israel allowed 40  truck loads of humanitarian aide into Gaza just a couple of days ago, even  though on Wednesday 80 rockets were sent into Israel from Gaza  .

·        All Israeli Embassies around the world are on high alert, as  is several areas in Israel including the North were we  live.

·        Thursday night 8 loaded  and timer-set rocket launchers were discovered 5km from Israel’s Northern  border with Lebanon.  These rockets were intended to hit Nahariya and  Maalot.  These were disarmed.  Lebananese sappers  found another 13.

·        Israeli intelligence reports  that somewhere between 800-1,000 tunnels are being used to smuggle arms  and terrorists into GazaIsrael had continued to  restrain from attacking thjose for many years while continually living  under attacks from Gaza .

·        Regardless of what you may  hear, Israel sent humanitarian trucks and money into Gaza during these  difficult years.  We have tried talks and truces which were never  fully honored by the  Palestinians.

It is being reported on  foreign media that many of the dead were school children on their way home  from school. at 11 AM? Exactly why they were attending school on Saturday and had been dismissed at 11AM has not been explained.

I am grateful to Dr. Joel Strom for forwarding this first hand report to me.

Fighting Continues In Gaza

…300 dead, 500 wounded, smuggling tunnels obliterated, Tank farm ablaze.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip rose to over 280 Sunday, Palestinian sources said, as IAF aircraft continued their bombings of Hamas targets. a Sunday Jerusalem Post article reports

IAF jets struck 40 smuggling tunnels connecting the Palestinian and Egyptian sides of Rafah, a Gaza Strip border town which has become a main entry point into Gaza of weapons, dynamite and other smuggled military equipment and consumer goods. According to reports, the bombing took a total of four minutes.

Also Sunday, IDF artillery batteries were deployed along the Gaza Strip border, indicating that the firepower used by the military in Operation Cast Lead so far might yet still be intensified in coming days.

Earlier, two Palestinians were killed in the Jebalya village in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said. They were reportedly killed by missiles fired by Israeli aircraft.

Overall the IAF attacked some 30 targets in Gaza on Sunday, bringing the total number of targets hit to approximately 240, in about 250 sorties over the first 24 hours of the operation.

IAF aircraft struck one of Hamas’s main security compounds in Gaza City Sunday morning, including the Seraya compound [a prison] in downtown Gaza on which IAF jets dropped three bombs, according to witnesses. The blast shattered windows nearby, including some at the office of The Associated Press.

At the Seraya compound, rescue teams started digging through the rubble. Hamas police fired in the air to keep away worried relatives of prisoners.

Aircraft on Sunday targeted a Gaza tanker truck carrying smuggled fuel, touching off a blaze that raged out of control and spread to about a dozen nearby houses, sending acrid plumes of black smoke towering above southern Gaza, witnesses and firefighters reported.

Palestinians said one of the main medicine warehouse supplying local pharmacies in southern Gaza was attacked in another sortie. “This is going to make us unable to supply any of the local families that depend on us,” warehouse owner Dr. Hussam Abu Hashem told local Hamas radio. “It’s a war against human beings.”

Local residents said the tanker and the warehouse contained supplies that had been smuggled in from Gaza through underground tunnels with Egypt, suggesting that Israel was widening its offensive to go after businesses that are a source of income for Hamas.

Palestinians said aircraft targeted a mosque near Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, destroying it. Two bodies were retrieved from the rubble. The army said the mosque was a base for terrorist activities.

Palestinian sources reported early Sunday morning that IAF aircraft had targeted the Al Aqsa TV station used by Hamas.

The studio building was destroyed, but the station remained on the air with a mobile unit, the sources said.

Palestinians counted approximately 20 air-strikes in the first hours of Sunday morning.

On Saturday night, IAF aircraft attacked a Kassam launching crew in Gaza, killing three of its members. Palestinians said four others were wounded in the attack.

IDF tanks were making their way from the Golan Heights to the south of Israel in the morning hours and ground troops massed at the Gaza border. Barak told Sky News that the military would deploy ground troops if necessary but avoided providing additional details. Israeli Foreign Minister Livni said on MEET THE PRESS it was not Israel’s intention to occupy Gaza once again. She did not say ground forces would not be involved in the current fighting.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak allowed crossings into Gaza to be opened on Sunday for humanitarian aid to go through, signaling to the world that Israel was fighting a war against Hamas in Gaza but not against the civilian population.

Thirty humanitarian aid trucks were set to pass into the Gaza Strip Sunday. Defense officials said that the number of trucks was decided upon in coordination with international aid groups.

Israel also planned to allow some Palestinians wounded in Saturday’s offensive on Hamas to enter Israel to receive medical treatment.

Officials said the decision to open the crossings and offer assistance to the wounded was part of Israel’s effort to create international legitimacy for its continued operations against Hamas.

As the first day of the operation neared its end the military reported a very low percentage of civilian deaths in a difficult theater which is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The army cited only about 15 deaths out of more than 275 Palestinian casualties were civilian.

Nevertheless, defense officials said Sunday that Israel would not hesitate to target the homes of civilians who protected Hamas terrorists throughout the operation.

“We will go after every Hamas operative, no matter where he is,” they said. “We call on Palestinians not to cooperate with terrorists.”

More than 210 targets were hit by IAF aircraft throughout Saturday. At least 275 Gazans were killed and over 780 were wounded, according to Palestinian sources.

110 Kassam rockets and mortar shells hit Israel on Saturday, the furthest of which landed 27 kilometers from its launcher inside Gaza. Rocket attacks were on a relative lull but the army said it was still expecting Hamas to recuperate from the initial shock and fire up to 200 rockets a day on Israel.
